Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

Dropping water temperatures and an increase in water flow have made for a perfect combination for excellent fall fishing in the central Wisconsin area.  The fish are putting on the fall feedbag and it is only going to get better as we move forward.  We have had a great week of catching nice muskies, walleyes, crappies and even a few big bass.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Most of musky our action has been on live suckers but we have been having luck on big rubber baits like Bulldawgs and Swimmin Dawgs along with Jerkbaits like Suick’s. When it comes to running the suckers check out Elk River Rods new line of Trolling/Sucker rods. I have been using them all season and they are great! They have a solid backbone combined with a soft tip that make for an excellent rod for both applications.  You can find them on-line at: https://www.elkrivercustomrods.com/  or just give the guys a call at: 715-339-4209.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

The walleyes and crappies have both been very active and are being caught by slowly working a jig and minnow on or near the bottom in 12 to 16 feet of water.  For the walleyes we are using medium sucker minnows and for the crappies we are using fathead minnows.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

It is that time of the year to think about winterization of your boat and motor and there is no one better than Amherst Marine for all your boating needs.  It is the only place that I go!  Give Jason or Jerry down at Amherst Marine a call at 715-824-5635 they will take great care of you.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

If you’re a hunter, now is your time of the year.  Activity has been increasing and the next two weeks are what most deer hunters wait for all season long.  The rut is going to be in full swing and the big bucks are going to come out of their nocturnal state.  A good buck during the rut can and will travel up to 7 miles in one day so don’t be surprised if you start seeing deer that you may not have seen previously on your trail cameras or while out in the woods. Great areas to target during the rut are field edges, travel corridors and locations between bedding and feeding locations.  Remember to play the wind and set up accordingly and you may find yourself with a wall hanger this year.

Have a great week,
