Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

Cooler temperatures have definitely sparked the fall fishing.  Water temperatures are finally dropping and action has picked up for all species. Bear hunters are coming into their final week of bear season and hunters are still giving it their best to tag that bruin.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

The musky action has seen the most dramatic increase with a lot of success on bucktails, jerkbaits and even topwater producing well. But our number one producer this past week has been Bulldawgs run along deeper breaks.   I can tell you this, we haven’t seen much action on suckers so far, and we have been running them all week. But with the upcoming forecasted cooler temperatures the sucker bite should start to turn on real soon!

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Walleyes have been very consistent with catches of up to and over 75 to 100 fish per day not uncommon.  We are seeing a lot of those 12 to 14 inch fish bet we are definitely getting into plenty of the good eater sized fish in that 15 to 20 inch range with some of the walleyes running even larger upwards of 30 inches!  Jigs tipped with X-Large fathead minnows or medium walleye suckers has been our go to bait working it in 12 to 16 feet of water right on the bottom.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Bass, bluegills, and crappies have all been incidental catches this past week as most of our trips have been targeting walleyes and/or muskies, but we are catching plenty of each species as well as some nice catfish and pike while we have been out.

It is that time of the year again when everyone needs to start thinking about winterization and storage of their boats. Please contact Jason or Jerry at Amherst Marine for all your boating needs.  Amherst Marine: http://www.amherstmarine.com/  or Phone: (715) 824-5635
