Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report
As we move into October the Fall hunting season is well under way. Most archery hunters are getting ready for the rut which will begin in a few weeks as well as gun hunters sighting in their rifles and getting their stands situated well before season starts. Duck and goose hunters are having a very good season with numbers of geese, mallards and wood duck still in the area, as well as some large groups of teal (both green wing and blue wing) starting to show up. This is going to be a very good season for the duck & goose hunters! Anglers are also having a good fall fishing season, and now with water temperatures in the upper 50"s and on their way down, it s only going to get better. The musky bite continues to improve with some big fish showing up on jerkbaits like Suicks and Reef Hawgs as well as rubber style baits like Bulldawgs and Medusa's. Walleyes have been particularly active in deeper water associated with the sharp bends in the main river channel and the large deep flats on the main lake. Most of the guys are using lead head jigs tipped with minnows for action but a few larger fish are coming on large jigs tipped with oversized plastics. The crappie bite has been very good all season long and continues to stay hot with good numbers as well as size being caught. Most of our action is coming from mid lake structure in deep water. Bass anglers continue to find a lot of big bass associated with deep rock structure by working deep diving crankbaits and jigs tipped with plastics over the rocky structure.
