Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Busy weekend in Wisconsin and with the Harley Davidson Fall Ride going on, the roads will be filled with bikers.  Please be careful if you’re on the road and watch for bikers. Paul’s Pro-Am Musky Tournament is this weekend in Eagle River Wisconsin. This will be the 41st year of this tournament which is the longest running musky tournament in Wisconsin.  With the weather heating up it could be an interesting weekend to be on the water.  Bear hunters may not like the warm temperatures though as the bears may stay or start to go nocturnal.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Fishing has been pretty good this past week with walleyes topping the list for activity with some really good numbers being caught. Anglers have been targeting mid lake structure in 8 to 12 feet of water for consistent action.  The crappie bite remains strong with some nice catches of slab crappies coming from deep water by anglers using slip bobbers and spider rigs.  The musky bite has been relatively slow from what we are seeing with a few fish being caught on rubber baits like Bulldawgs and Swimmin Dawgs, and some nice fish on jerkbaits like Suick’s and Reefhawgs.  If you are not seeing many muskies yet don’t be discouraged it will definitely pick up as move further into fall.

Now that the second week of bear season has begun and the northern zone sitters are able to start hunting we have seen some pretty good bears being taken.  Some of them have been in the 300 to 400 pound range with a few surpassing the 500 pound mark. Now that’s a big bear!

Have a great week,
