Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

Quick report this week as I just returned home from West Virginia after travelling over 2000 miles in 2 days from helping move the kids for school this upcoming semester.  We did stop in to see a few historical sites like Fort Boreman, the Blennerhasset Museum of Regional History, Hocking Hills State Park and the Wayne National Forest.  Very interesting and beautiful things to see, only if I had more time to spend over there!

Fishing last week was very good with a really nice mixed bag of species.  My new 6’10 custom Elk River rod has been getting put to the test and it is doing a great job!  The walleye bite was exceptional as was the bass fishing.  Lots of fish and some really good sized fish as well.  But the best action came from lots and lots of slab crappies and bluegills.  This warm weather really has the fish turned on and they have been very aggressive.  Most of the fish have been caught by working small 1/16th ounce jigs tipped with either a crawler or a minnow in submerged wood or along rocky rip-rap structure in 4 to 8 feet of water.

Bear baiting is heating up and as we get closer to the season things are going to pick up with our baiting and consistency.  We want to get the bears on a routine schedule so we can pattern them better before season starts. We have been seeing some really nice bears on our trail cameras and if things continue the way they are our hunters should have another great season.

Have a great week,
