Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report
It has been another great week of fishing in the central Wisconsin area. Limit catches of walleye have been the norm with actual numbers of fish exceeding 50 to 75 fish per day. Water temperatures have been hovering around the mid to upper 70 degree mark, and the water levels have been pretty stable which has led to consistent action from most species.
Walleye action in central Wisconsin has been exceptional this past week and not only are we getting good numbers of fish we are catching lots of good eaters in the 16 to 20 inch range along with a few nice slot fish as well. Slot fish are walleyes that are between 20 and 28 inches and they have to be released. A lot of our walleyes are being caught by slowly working deep wood with a lead head jig and a night crawler or half a night crawler. We are working our presentation slowly and methodically in and around the structure to pull fish from within it. The nice thing about the jig and crawler is that it will catch just about anything that swims. We are not only catching some very nice walleyes, we are also catching bass, crappies, bluegills and an occasional pike.
We have also been doing pretty well on crappies by running slip bobbers baited up with minnows and spider-rigging over some deep water locations. We are catching them while we are fishing for the deep walleyes by setting out extra lines set specifically for crappies, and separately when explicitly targeting crappies.
