Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report
The fishing in the central Wisconsin area has been very good this past week. The average water temperatures are now in the upper 70’s to low 80’s and yes you read that right low 80’s but the fishing remains very good.
We had a great week catching good numbers of walleyes along with some good eating sized fish we also picked up a few nice slot sized walleyes that were over 20 inches. Most of our action was by vertical jigging in timber in 8 to 14 FOW with weedless lead head jigs that have been tipped with a half a nightcrawler. We also picked up some nice walleyes trolling Flicker Shads in 8 to 14 FOW along breaklines.
With the warmer water temperatures the bass and panfish really turned on and we saw not only good numbers of fish but some really big bass as well. Like the walleyes these fish were also wood related but for the bass we used a jig and pig combo in black and blue or black and watermelon with red fleck.
For the panfish we were running a small 1/16th or 1/32nd ounce weedless lead head jig and we tipped them with a small piece of crawler or one of the Jig Shot plastics in the 1 ¾ inch small fry or the 2 inch swim fry in electric purple or royal shiner from our friends at Elk River Rods. The plastics were amazing as they didn’t rip off the jig after ever little nibble as opposed to a fish tearing off each piece of your crawler a lot of the time.
Our bear baits are doing very good and we are seeing both daytime and nighttime activity. Changing up our baits now is critical in keeping the bears interested in our sites and consistently visiting them instead of wandering off looking for new food.
Have a great week,
