Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report
Water temperatures have shot up this past week and are now in the mid to upper 70 degree range. This recent swing in temperatures has really had an impact on the fishing and it has changed things quite a bit.
Our walleye bite has been the most impacted this past week and it has transitioned to a much deeper bite with most of our fish now holding in 8 to14 FOW with some fish even deeper. This warm weather has pushed a majority of our fish to deep water locations and slowed down the bite. We are still catching walleyes but we are not getting the 100 fish days that we were seeing earlier in the year.
The crappie bite remains pretty strong with good catches. Most of our action is coming by spider rigging at different depths in 14 to 18 FOW with tiny minnows or plastics rigged up on light line and 1/16th ounce lead head jigs.
The warm water doesn’t affect the bass as much as other species and the bite has been very good. Most of the fish we found this past week were in 4 to 10 FOW of water associated with rocks or wood. Jig & Pig combinations as well as crankbaits were are go-to baits.
Our bear baiting continues and so do the mosquitoes. It has been a really bad year for mosquitoes and if you intend to head out bear baiting wear some repellant. With that said we continue to have good action at our regular bait stations so with all of those bait stations now already active we are starting to set up in new locations to see what else we can find.
Have a great week,
