Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

After several weeks of significant rain and crazy temperature swings we are finally starting to see things settling down. Water temperatures have moved to the upper 60 degree range with some locations pushing the low 70’s. This warming trend has fish on the move and feeding aggressively.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

We are seeing very good action from both crappies and walleyes along with some good action from pike and musky.  Most of the action is coming in less than 5 FOW except for some of the suspended crappies that are done spawning and are back out over deeper water.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

The walleye bite has been very good both casting crankbaits and jigging minnows. For the crappies we are using a simple slip bobber set up with tiny jigs that have been tipped with the new plastics from Elk River Rods in Pink or white or small crappie minnows that are hooked lightly through the lips.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

The musky bite has been very good with a lot of action on the new Musky Frenzy Apache bucktails, but we are also catching some nice fish on top water baits and even a few on rubber like Bulldawgs and Swimmin Dawgs. Scott Lewandowsky and I just recently took 3rd place in the Wisconsin Musky Challenge on the Pike & Round chain of lakes with a fat 44 inch musky that also tied for big fish of the tournament as well.

Our bear baiting season has begun and we already have over a dozen good stations going. With what we have seen it already looks like it is going to be another great year for our bear hunters.

Have a great week,
