Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

It has been another great week in Central Wisconsin. Ice conditions remain in the 7 to 16 inch range depending on the lake or flowage.

On Wisconsin Outdoors On Wisconsin Outdoors

The fishing has been outstanding with some really nice catches of all species. Walleyes have been very active as well as pike during the daylight hours.  Most of the action has been in shallow water along break lines and weed edges in 4 to 8 feet of water. Panfish activity has been the best in years with not only numbers but size as well. Crappies topping out at over 14 inches and perch up to and over 13 inches are common.  Most of our panfish action has been in two types of areas deep mud flats and shallow weeds. Both offer great fishing opportunities and action but we are seeing the larger fish in the deeper water as opposed to the shallow weed related fish. This week has also seen us catching catfish through the ice. If you have never witnessed or been part of catching catfish through the ice it is something you have to try.  The fight these fish give you on light line is something you won’t soon forget.

Have a great week,
