Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report 9/18/14
Central Wisconsin was the place to be if you were headed into the outdoors last week. With that said it looks as though things are shaping up for another banner fall season on the water and in the woods. Hunters had good success in the woods with the opener of the 2014 deer archery season. A few nice deer were taken like the nice 8 point buck by Cade Lemmer, son of Hooksetters guide Craig Lemmer. The 2014 Wisconsin bear season is still under way and hunters are still capitalizing on the abundance of bears in the area. Check out Tim Vergara of Wausau who just shot his first black bear this past week while hunting with Hooksetters Guide Service. Fishing has been outstanding with limit catches of walleyes and numbers of multi species catches on every trip we have been on. Most of the fish have now moved into their traditional fall patterns and can be caught by working jig and minnow presentations on the bottom. The musky bite has been phenomenal all season long and it continues to provide both action and excitement every time we head out onto the water. This past week we took numerous fish over 40 inches and had opportunities at multiple fish every time we hit the water. We also had a crack at a real giant (50+) that just missed the hooks of a Suick jerkbait right at boat side that made your heart stop. By the way if you haven't been planning ahead now is a great time to make an appointment with Amherst Marine (715-824-5635) to get your boat winterized and ready for winter. I know it's a little early for some of you to be pulling your boats but its never too early too schedule that appointment.
