CRIMESTOPPERS: Public info sought in case of damaged Common Tern colony, Winnebago County

The Department of Natural Resources’ Bureau of Law Enforcement is seeking the public’s help with a case involving the vandalism of a colony of Common Terns, a state-endangered bird species. On the evening of July 8, DNR staff discovered the damaged colony and dead chicks on an island in Lake Butte des Morts, Winnebago County. Some of the approximately 25 dead chicks had been crushed by foot or by rock. The age range of the dead chicks is approximately 2 to 21 days. If you have any information related to this crime, please call the DNR Hotline 1-800-TIP-WDNR or 1-800-847-9367. Callers may remain anonymous.
