Ashland County Fishing Report

September 25, 2018

Zach from Anglers All reports: . We are in fall pattern now, where you wake up and let the Lake call the shots. Anglers are fishing the Streams for Steelheads and having some success right now. Mud lines are still out in the Lake. Fishing can be very productive along the mud lines. Walleye anglers are trolling over the shallow weed-beds using crawler harnesses or stick-baits. Small Mouth fishing continues to be very good. Small Mouth have scattered throughout the Bay.  Anglers have been successful using sucker minnows. There have been reports of Cohos and Browns caught off of the River Mouths. Trolling for Lake Trout has been excellent but keep in mind the last day of the Lake Trout season is September 30th!  Cohos have been reported being caught around some of the inner islands as well. Most Trollers are using spoons or spin-n-glos run off of down riggers, dipsy divers or lead core!

Scott Bretting from River Rock reports.....Bass fishing is really good with anglers having good success using sucker minnows.  The Bass are deeper in that 14 - 18 ft. Anglers are using sucker minnows and deeper diving shad raps.  The Lake Trout bite is fantastic in the flats and among the Islands. Lake Trout season closes at Midnight on the 30th of  September but Lake Trout season closing doesn't mean trolling is done for other fish. Fall fishing is fantastic for Browns and Cohos. Near shore fishing and near the river mouths and also the streams for Browns and Cohos is great! Salmon fishing is getting better as it continues to cool down. With cooler nights now we are seeing fall fishing patterns.  Shore fishing is good from the docks casting for Rock Bass and Northerns using a variety of bait including dare devils, rapalas, and still soaking smelt and using crawlers. However, the Walleye bite does seems to be a bit tough right now. There have been reports of a few Salmon out in the lake! With the recent rain we are starting to see fish go up the stream. Welcome Duck Hunters. The cooler weather north of us will drive Ducks and geese down to us!
