Ashland County Fishing Report

Fishing Report September 17, 2019

Anglers All reports:  The fishing report continues to be the same as last week with fall fishing reported to be going good. Water temps are anywhere from the high 50's to the low 60's. With the cooler water temps now, the Trout and Salmon are beginning to stage off of the stream mouths with anglers using shallower running stick baits. We are now seeing Lake Run Browns moving into the tributary streams. We still have until the end of September to troll for Lake Trout. Small Mouth are now in 10 to 30 feet of water. However, certain times of day you can fish the shallows of the shoreline for Small Mouth. We are having a tremendous year for Walleye fishing in the Bay. Most anglers are working 10 to 30 feet of water over weed beds and drop offs with anglers having success using crawler harnesses, stick baits and jigging raps. There are always Northerns in the mix. Don't have a boat??? Try shoreline fishing off the Marina break-wall for nice size Perch and other species. Come in and enjoy the fall colors!

Scott Bretting from River Rock Inn & Bait Shop reports:  Autumn fishing has started as the air temps are really cooling. We are in the fall cooler water temps now. Fish are very active right now which makes for really good fishing. There are a couple of weeks left for Lake Trout fishing which closes October 1st. Anglers are catching some nice cohos in the Bay now. Browns are in the streams and Coho's are starting to show up. Anglers are using spinners, spawn, mepps, blue fox and panther martins and a variety of colors. Streams are active right now.  Inland Lakes are doing well with Walleye, Pan Fish and Crappies being caught. The Musky bite is on with some dandy size Musky being caught. We have a great Chequamegon Bay Fishing Brochure/Map which shows some of our shoreline fishing spots. We welcome all Bear Hunters!
