Ashland County Fishing Report

Carolyn from Anglers All reports:  The conditions have remained the same the last couple of days, leaving this report the same as last wk. Fishing really have been great! Right now the water temp has moved to the 70′s. This temperature change has just happened. As temps rise there are still fish in the upper water column as well as fish on the bottom. Trollers are still using stick baits in the shallower water using spoons and spin n glows. Small Mouth Fishing is in full swing in Sandcut, Oak Point, and Brush Point, with some post spawn fish moving all over the Bay where ever there is structure.  Anglers have been successful using plastics on light jigs, crank-baits, hair-jigs, and live bait. They worked slowly in 10 feet of water or less. There have been some beautiful Small Mouth being caught. Walleye fishing has been a bit spotty but they are being caught. There are always Northerns in the mix.

Scott Bretting from River Rock Inn & Bait Shop reports We have some good water clarity with water temps in the mid to upper 60′s. There are some nice Walleyes being caught in the Kakagon Sloughs and Brush Point area and Chequamegon Bay. A good bait to use there are crawlers and leaches. There are also reports of nice Walleyes in the Johnson Beach and Pig Iron area. Bass are moving into the summer pattern in 12 to 15 feet. Trolling has been great out in the flats using anything bright pink. There have been some Coho out there being caught. There is a lot of pollen on the water right now. When it comes to the bugs hatching, each day can be different. Kastmaster has been a good bait for catching Walleyes and Bass in the Bay. We just have to wait and see on the May Fly hatch. There has’t been many spotted yet. The Inlands have been having some really nice Crappies and Pan Fish being caught. A good bait for the Creeks and Streams right now are night crawlers and spinners. Inland Lake Musky fishing is getting better as the temps warm. We have a great Chequamegon Bay Fishing Brochure/Map which shows some of our shoreline fishing spots. Some of these key areas have been catching some nice Northern Pike using larger sucker minnows, spoons and dare devils. Walleyes are starting to move a little further from shore, but not too far. Shoreline fishing has been great in some of the local favorite spots to fish listed on the fishing brochure.
