Ashland County Fishing Report

Fishing Report, June 20…2017

River Rock Inn & Bait Shop, Located at 1200 W. Lake Shore Drive (U.S. Highway 2), in Ashland where you can stop in and see their wide variety of live bait, fishing tackle, gear, accessories, fresh and smoked fish from Lake Superior, local meat sticks, and microbrews, and much more. Call them at 715/682-3232 for the most current fishing report.
Scott Bretting from River Rock Inn and Bait Shop Reports:

We are finally starting to see clear water closer to the Bad River. Anglers are starting to see some Lake Trout in the dirtier water. Don’t be afraid to venture in to the mud lines in the Bad River area. The fish are in the upper 20 foot water column. They are seeing some nice Browns there also.
Trolling continues to be great! Take note…when you are trolling, there are a couple of new nets appearing on the tip of Long Island. Anglers have been catching nice Browns, Lake Trout, Coho’s, and Steelheads. Scatter wraps have been a good bait to use. We are starting to see Small Mouth Bass and fresh fish up on their beds. Real fat Toads are showing up on their beds and they are real aggressive up in the Sand Cut, Oak Point Area and up in the Sand Flats. They are starting to get up in the shallows where the water is clearing. Tube jigs, rubber worms, wacky worms and sucker minnows have been good steady baits to use. Small Mouth are starting to spawn so we should start seeing some fish top water. The Walleye bite has been better both on the Bay and the Inland’s. We are starting to see some nice Walleye in the Kakagon and Oak Point areas.
Shore fishing has been great with a mixed bag of fish being caught.
Inland fishing has been good all around. Musky fishing has been great along with nice catches of Crappies. As the water temps continue to warm the bite will get even better.
The Crappie bite on the Inlands has been more active as the waters are getting warmer. The Inlands are starting to see summer weeds coming up. Keep in mind that warmer water is on its way, which means more water activity on the weekends.

Good News….The forecast is calling for LESS thunderstorms this next week!!!

Anglers All, Located at 2803 E. Lake Shore Drive (U.S. Highway 2) in Ashland, is a full-service
tackle and fly shop offering a huge selection of baits and tackle for year round fishing. For the most complete and up-to-date fishing report, just give them a call at 715/682-5754, and they will gladly keep you informed!

Carolyn from Anglers All reports: Luke from Anglers All had a great week fishing for Small Mouth Bass. There are pre-spawn fish and fish on beds and post-spawn fish that are starting to move to their summer haunts throughout the Bay. Small Mouth fishing in typically in 5-ft of water or less and moving baits VERY slowly is the most productive way to fish the Small Mouth unless you see them chasing, then you can move your baits faster.

Anglers have been catching Walleye at the head of the Bay, Brush Point and Kakagon Slough, using crawlers, leeches, and minnows as well as stick baits.

Northern’s have been caught at the Break Wall and along the Ashland shoreline with many Anglers casting spoons and spinner baits.

Trolling for Trout and Salmon has been very productive from Houghton Point all the way out to the Islands. Many fish are still being caught in shallower depths trolling stick baits, however, water temps are starting to warm and anglers are starting to transition into using spoons,

Stream fishermen should be looking for the hex hatch to start soon!

Always be aware of deadheads and floating debris on the water!!!
