Carolyn from Anglers All reports: The Rivers are high right now. Long Bridge and Short Bridge on the west side are open but have not met yet. People are still venturing out but the top layers of the ice are starting to candle so make sure to call ahead for ice conditions and safety. Trout have been coming into the shallows off the river mouths as the run-off has begun. Reminder: Early season opened on the Lake Superior Tributary Streams on Saturday, March 30th. The Streams are open up to the 1st impassable barrier. We should see good Steelhead activity with the slower run-off.
Scott Bretting reports: Ice conditions are very deteriorated. The ice is unsafe now. There is no such thing as safe ice anymore this year. There is open water in the South Channel and the Sioux River and Van Tassels area toward Bayfield and Long Bridge and Short Bridge in Ashland. Early Trout Season opened up Saturday, March 30th. Consult the WI Trout regulations. Licenses expired March 31st. New licenses were needed on April 1st. Anglers have caught Steelhead on the local Streams. The Ferry Boat to Madeline Island has started to run. It’s time to start getting your boats ready and putting new line on your rods.
