Ashland Area Fishing Report

~ Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter from Anglers All, (715)-682-5754, http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com Reports: The fishing continues to be good on both the big blue Lake Superior and the Inland Lakes. Bass are biting in deeper water on Sucker Minnows during daytime hours. Early morning and late afternoon into the evening Bass move into the Shallows to feed so you can fish for Bass on artificials and flies. Walleye Anglers are doing well drifting Crawler Harnesses and Stickbaits over the weedbeds. Activity has been best early in the morning and in the evening. Trolling has started picking up in shallower areas from Houghton Point to Pikes Bay and all the way into Washburn. There have been good reports on trout and Coho’s and Browns. There have also been reports of a good White Fish Bite going on! Trolling for Lake Trout has been really good the last two weeks!

~ Fishing Guide Nate Baron from Up North Guide Service and Fishing Guide Scott Bretting from River Rock Inn and Bait Shop, 715-682-3232 http://riverrockinn.net Reports:

The weather is cooling down now so “Great Autumn Fishing” should be in a week or so! Presently the Lake Trout fishing on Lake Superior has been excellent. Near shore trolling in the Islands and on the flats in 100-150 FOW has been very productive. Flat lining stickbaits over deep water for Cohos and Kings out there is also picking up some nice fish. The early morning bite has by far been the best. The fishing seems to taper off significantly after 11 AM.

A good number of Brown Trout, Cohos and Kings are starting to show up in the shallower water now, as they get ready to make their upcoming Fall run.

A high number of Charters and anglers have been coming in with their limits. Trolling with Spoons, Flasher/Spin-Glows & Howie flies with downriggers has been the most productive. Anglers are still doing really well off of Saxon Harbor in 40-60 FOW with downriggers for Lakers. Trolling sub-surface Stickbaits with planer boards and dipsy divers is also picking up a fair amount of Cohos, King Salmon and an occasional Steelhead. The fishing should remain good in the Harbor as long as the baitfish are there

Smallmouth bass fishing has been good on  Chequamegon Bay this past week. Fishing the deeper weedbeds in 14-21 FOW with Crankbaits, Spinnerbaits and live sucker rigs has been the most productive. Working the deeper weedbeds with Musky size Bucktails and Spinnerbaits has also been producing some large Northern Pike.

The Walleye fishing on the Bay has been very good this past week. Trolling Crankbaits and pulling Crawler Harnesses with half a crawler along the deep weed edges from Second Landing to the Lighthouse in 16-21 FOW has been the most productive. There has been a lot of slot fish being caught and reports of fish over 30" all week.

Musky activity on the area's Inland Lakes has been very good. Burning Bucktails on the top and surface baits near dawn and dusk has been most productive. Work the deeper weed edges with Bucktails and Jerkbaits during mid day hours. The August Full Moon is here which presents one of the best times of the year for that trophy of a lifetime. Please remember to take extra care when practicing catch and release with the recent hot weather and rising water temperatures. The less stress you can put on the fish at this time the better. Good luck on the water, tight lines to all.
