Ashland Area Fishing Report for Oct. 29, 2015

On Wisconsin Outdoors

The late-season warm weather the northland experienced this year provided for some noteworthy stream fishing, according to guide Luke Kavajecz with Anglers All in Ashland. This happy angler displays a real beauty he caught on a recent fishing trip with Luke.   (Photo courtesy of Luke Kavajecz)

~ Fishing guides Roger LaPenter and Luke Kavajecz from Anglers All, 715/682-5754, report the following:

This report is about the Ashland side of Chequamegon Bay.  Well, we got that rain we wanted and then some!  As soon as the water clears in a couple of days we should see some new fish, including brown trout, salmon and steelhead, in the area streams and rivers.

The late-season warm weather the northland had been experiencing provided for some noteworthy stream fishing, according to guide Luke Kavajecz with Anglers All in Ashland.

“High skies, warm temperatures, low and clear water: the perfect recipe for good steelhead fishing apparently,” Luke observed recently.  “The most fish I've seen hooked in a day in a few seasons. As a wise old man at the Kro Bar once said, ‘You gotta keep your hook in the brook, eh.’ ”

October is typically trophy season for smallmouth bass and they are into their fall feeding patterns, frequenting their usual autumn haunts such as the breakwall and by the marina.  They are starting to school more and become more active.

The walleye also are around in decent numbers with people finding them in the same places they’ve been catching smallmouth bass, according to Carolyn Swartz, co-owner of Anglers All.

“Walleye have been out around the rock pile and on the humps in the bay,” she said, adding that suckers are a good bait to use for them right now.  “I would also suggest folks work the mud lines since we’ve had all of this rain.”

For the most complete and up-to-date fishing report, just give them a call at Anglers All and they will gladly keep you informed!

~ The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce, 1-800-284-9484, reports:

Fishing is always a thrilling adventure in the Ashland area!  Chequamegon Bay is famous for its world-class smallmouth bass fishing.

Held in conjunction with the Garland City Women’s Expo, Ashland’s 4th Annual Chick-uamegon, a lighthearted women's 5K/10K walk/run, offers plenty of fun, along with terrific prizes and cute awards.  Where else can you see happy, smiling runners wearing pastel-colored tutus, glitter face paint, pink wigs and butterfly wings?

Chick-uamegon participants are advised to come dressed to win in their most “bling” attire for this exciting and colorful event set for Saturday, Nov. 7.  Finishers each receive a tiara and medal, plus there will be prizes for the top three participants wearing the most outlandish “blingest best” outfits imaginable.

New this year is the Chick-uamegon Ball on Saturday night complete with fantastic music and a thrilling light show by JD Bass Entertainment!  Put on a vintage prom dress or retro gown and dance the night away starting at 8 p.m. at The Alley, 806 W. Main St., in downtown Ashland.
