Ashland Area Fishing Report for Dec. 19, 2014

OWO

~ Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter and wife Carolyn from Anglers All715/682-5754 (http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com), report the following:

This report is about the Ashland side of Chequamegon Bay. The ice fishing is very good, folks!! The ice is getting better every day, according to seasoned guide Roger LaPenter of Ashland, and is currently anywhere from 6 to 12 inches thick on the bay, depending on where you go.

As always, conditions can change rapidly on Lake Superior.  For your own safety and especially if you are unfamiliar with the area you will be fishing, hire a local guide or check with a bait shop prior to venturing out on any ice.

Anglers have been experiencing good luck catching whitefish, perch, walleye, and brown trout. In addition, Roger said there are a few spots that are holding quite a few northern pike. And surprisingly, there are still a few people trolling out of boats in the open water over by Bodin’s Resort and Houghton Point.

The inland lakes are frozen and anglers are “doing halfway decent” on crappies, Roger said. He also noted that the bluegill fishing is good and some people are getting northerns as well.

For the most complete and up-to-date fishing report, just give them a call at Anglers All and they will gladly keep you informed!
