Ashland Area Fishing Report for Dec. 11, 2014

~ Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter and wife Carolyn from Anglers All715/682-5754 (http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com), report the following:

This report is about the Ashland side of Chequamegon Bay.  Ice fishing season is here and the catches have been good!  Carolyn LaPenter reports that anglers have been catching perch, walleye, brown trout, northern pike and the occasional splake.

Those targeting walleye and perch are having good luck in 12 to 15 foot of water going out from First and Second Landing.

Northerns are being caught next to the Ashland breakwall, and both northerns and perch can be found in the scattered weed beds nearby, she noted.

Anglers are getting walleyes and browns out by Tern Island, across from Shopko Hometown (formerly Pamida).

She said brown trout and walleye are being fished from shore off of the ore dock base and the marina. In addition, people are doing fairly well in the Bono Creek area, where they are catching browns, whitefish and herring.

Carolyn reports there is 6-10 inches of ice in some spots off the Ashland shoreline, depending on where you are.  As always, conditions can change rapidly on Lake Superior.  For your own safety and especially if you are unfamiliar with the area you will be fishing, hire a local guide or check with a bait shop prior to venturing out on any ice.

Carolyn strongly urges anglers to be cautious, bring an ice bar and check their way as they go.  For the most complete and up-to-date fishing report, just give them a call at Anglers All and they will gladly keep you informed!
