Ashland Area Fishing Report for April 9, 2015

~ Fishing guides Roger LaPenter and Luke Kavajecz from Anglers All, 715/682-5754 (http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com), report the following:

This report is about the Ashland side of Chequamegon Bay.  Anglers are anxiously awaiting ice-out on the bay and the start of open-water fishing.  In the meantime, some people have been taking their boats out and traveling around and through the ice chunks to get perch.

The ice has gone out at Saxon Harbor and anglers are already trolling from there.  In the wake of the state’s early-season steelhead opener on the Brule River from U.S. Highway 2 to Lake Superior on March 28, steelhead are now being caught in the local rivers.

“The Brule has been fishing really well,” said Luke Kavajecz of Anglers All in Ashland.  “The river is at a really nice flow right now, with just a touch of color.”

Luke said that with the recent warmer temperatures, the fish have been moving and there should be fresh fish entering the river any day now.

“Right now, you can find fish from Highway 2 all the way to the lake.  There are fish entering other South Shore and Chequamegon Bay rivers as well.”

The ice is out up at Cornucopia and with the rain and temperatures predicted to be in the 50s and 60s starting this weekend, everyone is hoping the ice will be gone from Chequamegon Bay within the next week to 10 days.

For the most complete and up-to-date fishing report, just give them a call at Anglers All and they will gladly keep you informed!
