A very Early Steelhead River Report from Jerry Kiesow

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Editor note: As an avid fly fisherman, On Wisconsin Outdoor columnist Jerry Kiesow is a hard one to keep out of the river.  He submitted his first river report this week, more because he was in the area than due to any crazy idea that the run was on, or even that the ice was off.  See Jerry’s photos and some of his writings, including his book, “Tales of the Peshtigo Putzer”, at jerrykiesowoc.com. His report and photos are below.

“I happened to have an appointment this morning in Random Lake, so, while in the areas I thought I'd do all of you a favor and check things out.  Here is what I found:

The Onion is fishable; the Pigeon is not, but is working on being so, depending on the weather.  Ice is still under the water there.”

“Most of the Sheboygan is still under ice and snow.  The Sauk is really running strong.  All have lots of snow melt to handle, so maybe it will be a while before you want to wet your waders. But ...  they are better than I expected.”

“Keep a good thought!”

Jerry
