3-2-14 Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report
Great action this past week as we come to the close of the 2013-2014 inland game fish season. Good thing for us is that the waters we fish are basically never closed as they are almost all associated with or on the Wisconsin River. Walleye action has been very good for both numbers and size along with good catches of crappies, bluegills, and perch in the Central Wisconsin area. The northern pike have been feeding aggressively in shallow water and will continue to move even shallower as they prepare to spawn. With the long winter and heavy snows we have had this year it is almost impossible to get out on most area lakes without the use of a snowmobile or by foot travel. With that said, there are upcoming deadlines for ice shanty's to be removed. The DNR is working with anglers in the area due to the fact that many cannot get to their structures at this time. Anglers with ice shanties on the ice are being asked to contact the local DNR with questions and answers as to getting their shanties off in a timely manner, and to avoid costly fines that could be associated with not getting them off by the deadlines.
