12/15/14 Price County Fishing Report
Warm temps over the weekend and early this week have melted all of the snow off the ice making ice conditions very slick, The lake ice is holding up fairly well to the warm temps with 8 to 15 inches being reported on most area lakes. Caution needs to be taken in current areas and high run off areas such as where drainage ditches enter the lakes and even parking lot run off at boat landings. I strongly urge people to stay off the lakes with Cars and Trucks and take extreme caution with any travel on the ice. Colder temps later in the week should firm things back up again.
We are doing ok on Crappie right now, The bite has been a tough one but with a little finesse and some patients Crappie can be caught. I have been doing best with small plastics, Ratso, Shrimpos and Clam's new line of plastics are putting fish in our buckets. You need a finesse type rod like a St Croix Legend, Frabill Bro Quick Tip or a Beaver Dam Tip Stick to feel the light bites. Watch your electronics and try different presentations until you get a favorable reaction from the fish. Right now I have been finding that they hardly want the bait moving at all, But that changes as the day goes on with the changing light conditions, barometric pressures, fishing pressure and moon cycle.
Walleye action has been good at the low light hours of the day. Reports are coming into Ross's Sport Shop that Golden Shiners seem to be taking most of the walleye in 2 to 6 feet of water right at dark or first light of morning using tip ups.
Pictured is my 7 year old son Chayton Carlson with his first Crappie of this years ice season that he happily released.

“The goodness of a person and of the society he or she lives in often comes down to very simple things and words found in the Scout Law. Every society depends on trust and loyalty, on courtesy and kindness, on bravery and reverence. These are the values of Scouting, and these are the values of Americans.”
President George W. Bush
