12/14/14 Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report
Most area lakes have between 6 and 10 inches of good solid ice with a few up to and near that 12 inch mark. The snow cover is limited so travel and accessibility on the lakes has been very good.
We had a great panfish bite in central Wisconsin this past week, with good numbers of both crappies and bluegills. Most of the fish are in 8 to 12 feet of water with a few crappies now starting to suspend over deeper water in the 16 to 20 foot range.
Walleyes and pike have been rather aggressive this past week and a lot of that action is taking place in large weed beds targeting the deeper outside weed edges and open pockets in the weeds beds themselves.
We have been on a very good catfish bite with catches of 10 to 15 fish not common. Most of the cats are in the 16 to 24 inch range but a few nice ones up to and over that 30 inch mark have been taking our baits as well.
Have a great week,
Phil Schweik
