Minocqua Fishing Report

Our own little “forecaster” the pond behind our shop, froze last week, yet reopened with the warmer temps, wind and rain of the weekend.  Well, it’s on its way bay to locking up (about 40% covered as of 11/18).

Surface temps on area lakes range from 35-40 degrees.  Some lakes as of Saturday were inaccessible due to ice in the bays.  While the wind will keep things open as it blows, cold temps this week will shut some lakes out, though larger lakes should stay open until the musky season closes on November 30th.

Last week whitefish were coming up shallow to spawn after dark, but by the weekend reports had slowed considerably.

As far as fishing reports, not a lot of participation this past week.  My boat struck out (1 pike on a Triple D) and a few anglers catching walleyes deep on larger minnows.  Big suckers is best move for muskies from here on out, with slow moving glide/jerk baits, rubber creature baits and slow moving cranks best.
