Ashland Area Fishing Report for Nov. 5, 2015

~ Fishing guides Roger LaPenter and Luke Kavajecz from Anglers All, 715/682-5754, report the following:

This report is about the Ashland side of Chequamegon Bay.  Fishing has been good this past week with brown trout and coho salmon being caught in the bay here.  They’ve also been found in the Sioux River and out by the flats, according to John Radloff, an employee with Anglers All in Ashland.

“There are fish in the creeks and salmon in the rivers,” he said, “along with the browns and rainbow trout.”

Radloff said there has been decent walleye activity along the Ashland shoreline as well as salmon.  “They are dragging stickbaits, mostly Rapalas, for the walleye,” he noted.  “As far as live bait goes, most of the guys have been purchasing sucker minnows.”

Dubbed “Franken-fish” by Anglers All fishing guide Luke Kavajecz, this monster coho salmon was caught on a pre-Halloween excursion to an Ashland area stream. “Cohos are abnormally large this year for Lake Superior,” commented Kavajecz. “A couple of nice brookies and browns came out to play too, which was fun.”  (Photo courtesy of Luke Kavajecz)

The smallmouth bass have been into their fall feeding patterns for several weeks now, frequenting their usual autumn haunts such as the breakwall and by the marina.  They have been schooling more and becoming more active.

“There are still smallmouth being taken up along Brush Point and out toward Long Island,” confirmed Radloff.

Muskie fishermen report good activity inland on Lake Namakagon and over on the Pike Chain of Lakes.

“We’ve had a warm autumn, but the water is starting to cool down now,” Radloff said, “and that will help with surface fishing.”
