Winnebago Sturgeon Spearing Report – Tuesday February 19, 2013
Even with the snow and winds today, spearers were still able to get out on Lake Winnebago and harvest some fish. There were 12 fish harvested from Lake Winnebago today, 8 of which were registered at Jerry’s Bar in Oshkosh. Action in this area of the lake has really picked up over the last few days, and spearers are having success. The largest fish harvested today, and only fish >100 pounds, was harvested by Scott Miller of Van Dyne (attached photo). Scott registered his 71.2”, 122.3 pound fish at Jerry’s Bar, and is the 9th fish over 100 pounds to be registered there this year (13.4% of the fish registered at Jerry’s have been >100 pounds).
I wrote Sunday about the increase in 100+ pound fish over the last 5-10 years. Well today I want to take it a step further and write about the record breaking fish that have showed up over the last decade in the harvest. Read the attached vignette to learn more. I have also put together a list detailing the information about the top 10 fish harvested on record (also attached). I don’t have pictures of all of these fish, but the ones I do have are pretty impressive!
