1-28-14 Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report
Lots of snow in Central Wisconsin is making for difficult travel on area lakes. But for the anglers still willing and able to get out the bite has been good for big walleyes, nice crappies, some dandy catfish, and a few nice perch and pike. The best action has been early and late in the day on all species except the pike which have been biting the best during mid day hours. We are seeing a lot of fish suspending in deeper water including the walleyes. Most of the fish are anywhere from 2 to 4 feet of the bottom and in some instances even higher up in the water column. A lot of this may be due to seasonal movement and some of this I am sure is due to the amount of oxygen in the system. For anglers heading out on the ice the use of a flasher unit like a Humminbird 55 or a Marcum LX-5 can really help you have a productive day. Not only can you use these electronics to help find specific fishing locations, you can easily determine the depths that the fish are running at by simply watching the screen to see what depths they are coming through at. Once depths are determined, set up your baits accordingly and get ready for the action to start.
