We are still in the "making ice" stage here on Chequamegon Bay. Some parts, off Second Landing, have had ice a little longer, but nothing is fishable as of yet. Hoping that the temps stay below freezing and we can start putting some depth to the ice pack.
Inland, some of our smaller lakes have up to 3 inches of ice. Some of the larger water is still very thin, and we will report back with info on those lakes as they get safe. They are not fishable yet.
We strongly encourage ice fishing enthusiasts to use extreme caution and to check all ice for themselves before venturing out.
The Ashland Chamber, 800-284-9484, www.visitashland.com is ready for winter and we hope Mother Nature will cooperate very soon.
We would love snow and freezing temperatures to help out the ice forming for Ice Fishing Season.
Upcoming winter events include:
January 12th, Northwoods Harness Club, Sleigh & Cutter Rally at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center.
February 9th, King of the Bay Snow Drags near Maslowski Beach in Ashland.
February 16th, Book Across the Bay XC Ski Race and Snow Shoe Trek across Chequamegon Bay Ice from Ashland to Washburn
