Ashland Area Fishing Report 9-27-12

Jim Hudson, Hudson's On the Spot Guide Service, 715-209-6431,

hudson@fishchequamegonbay.com reports:

Fishing in front of the river mouths will start to heat up now. Water temps have dropped and this week into October are the best times for Coho to show back up. Also, we got some rain recently, so, hopefully that will help the stream anglers out there. I was out today and we boated 6 Coho, a 29-inch Steelhead and a Brown. No real pattern to depth of lure choice; just covered water to catch them.

Also, smallmouth fishing will start to turn into a fall bite from here on out. Look for fish to start sliding deeper and into areas close to wintering areas. Time to start messing more with artificials than live bait. In the fall I catch a lot more fish on tubes, heavy jig heads with twister tails, football heads with trailers, deep diving cranks, jigging spoons and drop shots than using live bait. Once you see that water temp in the low 50's and sustain there, it’s ON!

For Sturgeon, haven't seen many jumping around at all like I did earlier in the summer, so, can’t help you on spots or anything like that. Never tried it this time of year.

Walleye had been very good until the water temps started dropping drastically. It’s tough now, but typical of our fall.

Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter from Anglers All, (715)-682-5754, http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com reports:

Anglers are finding Walleyes in the Bay and there are plenty of Salmon and Trout out there right now so fishing should be great, especially this weekend with a great forecast predicting sunny skies.

The wind has calmed down the past couple of days so boaters are out on the lake.

The bass are always biting.

Typically the fishing should remain the same for the next couple of weeks.

GREAT FALL FISHING AHEAD!
