Invasive species online chats scheduled for June 4 and 6, 12 p.m., as part of Invasive Species Awareness Month

MADISON - As part of numerous activities and events lined up for Invasive Species Awareness Month, Department of Natural Resources will host two online chats. The June 4 chat will focus on terrestrial invasive species and June 6 will focus on aquatic invasive species (AIS). Both chats will begin at 12 p.m.
To participate, visit the DNR home page and look for the chat box or search the phrase "ask the experts." You can also join the conversation via the DNR Facebook page at facebook.com/WIDNR and clicking the “Cover it Live Chat” box at the top of our page.
June 4: Terrestrial Invasive Plants and Earthworms
June is Invasive Species Awareness Month so if you’ve been battling leafy green and woody invaders like common buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica), garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata), and honeysuckles (Lonicera morrowii, L. tartarica, L. x bella, & L. maackii) now is the time to get your questions answered. Are you wondering what the trouble is with earthworms? Find out by joining DNR invasive species experts for an online chat from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4.
June 6: Aquatic Invasive Species
Aquatic invasive species (AIS) are non-native plants and animals that cause environmental or ecological harm to our waters and are primarily spread through human activities such as boating and angling.
Have you encountered AIS in your favorite lake? Do you have questions on AIS “no transport” laws aimed at boaters and anglers? Are you aware of the numerous prevention, monitoring and control efforts taking place in WI? Ever wonder who those folks with the blue shirts are out at the boat landing? Do you know local group/governments can apply for AIS grants through our DNR AIS Grants Program? Or are you interested in joining the hundreds of volunteers working to monitor and prevent the spread of AIS?
