Kewaunee/Door County Salmon Tournament

KDSalmonTournament

Day 3 Results — Monday, July 23, 2012

The Washington Island area continued to produce big fish Monday, Day 3 of the 9-day K/D Salmon Tournament. Two of the chinooks were larger than 21 pounds, giving the northern Door/island area five of the top 10 fish early on.

Sam Siemenski said his 21.29-pounder grabbed a Moonshine spoon about 60 feet down in 120 feet of water off Gills Rock around mid-morning Monday, while Timothy Geyen said his 21.15-pounder smacked a green flasher and fly combination set 70 feet down over 80 feet of water near Rock Island about 7:30 a.m.

If tournament anglers continue to register larger chinooks at the current rate, it’ll likely take a fish of 17 pounds or more to get in on the final payout of prize money.

The lucky fisherman who lands the heaviest “king” will win $10,000 cash, a free mount of the fish by Scott Mansur’s Northland Taxidermy of Algoma and a custom sterling silver chinook salmon ring with a diamond eye by Paul Spanbauer of wisconsincharm.com. John Peters of New London is the current leader with a 26.20-pounder hooked off Kewaunee midday Sunday. Second place is $2,000 cash and a pair of Cannon electric downriggers, and third place is $1,000 cash and a pair of copper wire setups from Howie’s Tackle.

Other major sponsors of the 30th annual K/D Salmon Tournament include Bay Lake Bank, Big Lake Lures, Big Lake Tackle (makers of Dragon Fly) Big Weenie Trolling Flies, Brad’s Cut Plugs, Costa Sunglasses, Flanigan Distributing, Luhr Jensen, Moonshine Lures, Plano Tackle and P-Line.
