Ashland Area Fishing and Fun Report 2-27-13

Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter from Anglers All, (715)-682-5754, http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com.

Reports: The Big Lake continues to be good. Bass are in spawn and post-spawn mode and fishing has been great on flies. A lot of good fishing has been done at Sand Cut, Oak Point and Brush Point areas. Trolling for Trout and Salmon has been excellent in the Shallows and Deep Water. Start early in the morning on the first drops then work to deeper water as the sun gets higher in the sky. Most Anglers are using stickbaits, spoons, bait flies and spin-n-glows. There has been a good deal of Northern activity along the Ashland shoreline. The Walleye feeding frenzy is starting to slack off and the fish are starting to move throughout the Bay. Anglers are having good luck on the Inlands with Bass, Walleye, Northern and Pan Fish all biting. The Bass and Pan Fish are in the shallows and are very, very active. Fishing on the Big Rivers has been awesome! They are catching Smallmouth and Muskies…but be prepared as the mosquitoes are also biting.

Fishing Guide Nate Baron from River Rock Inn and Bait Shop, 715-682-3232. info@riverrockinn.net reports:

The Smallmouth & Walleye action has been good this past week. Trolling crawler harnesses and crankbaits at the head of the bay in 5-15 FOW has been exceptional for Walleye.

The Smallmouth fishing at Sandcut and Brush point has been good but is slowing down as fish enter the post spawn stage. All artificial lure presentations have been working well for Smallies with Senkos hooked 'Wacky' style being a favorite. Anglers are using small live suckers on the negative days with good success.

Lake trout fishing on the flats and in the Islands has been very good in deeper water with Flashers and 'Spin and Glows' working well.  Inland lake fishing is picking up with good reports of Largemouth Bass & Northern Pike being caught on artificial lures, The Bluegill fishing has been excellent as they are now moving up on to the beds.

The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce reports: Call the local bait shops for any fishing news!
