SUBJECT: June 26 public meeting will kick off efforts to update Lake Superior fisheries management plan
ASHLAND, Wis. - A public meeting to discuss an updated Lake Superior fisheries management plan held by Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources staff will be held June 26 at the Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College Ashland campus.
This initial meeting to kick off outreach efforts to gather input regarding the future management of Lake Superior fisheries begins at 6 p.m. and will be held at 2100 Beaser Ave., Room 306, Ashland.
“The previous Lake Superior fisheries management plan is nearly 30 years old,” said Bradley Ray, DNR senior fisheries biologist. “This meeting will kick off the process to take a look at the old plan and see what we can improve upon as we move forward.”
The fisheries management plan will take a broad look at the fisheries and fish communities of Lake Superior and establish objectives for future management. The management plan will incorporate input from multiple user groups from sport and commercial interests.
“Lake Superior is a shared fishery and we need to take all interests into account in the development of a successful plan,” said Ray.
