Lake Michigan whitefish survey available online, comment period open until Feb. 10

Following two stakeholder meetings in Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay this week, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has created an online survey to collect additional information to aid in whitefish management.

Whitefish populations in Lake Michigan and Green Bay represent an incredible recreational, economic and biological asset and the January meetings were organized to help find a balance that supports recreational and commercial interests.  A link to a video recording of the Green Bay meeting provides a more complete picture of recent changes in whitefish populations and other changes occurring in the lake:  http://dnrmedia.wi.gov/main/Play/458b496a968946a38ab60e4215ebfc281d.

Stakeholder feedback will help DNR determine the next steps in managing the Green Bay and Lake Michigan whitefish fisheries. The public comment period and online survey are open until Feb. 10, 2017.

Please click here to take our whitefish management survey or access the survey through: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DNRWhitefish. Please submit comments via email to:  David.boyarski@wisconsin.gov or by mail to WDNR – David Boyarski, 110 S. Neenah Ave., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235.

More information is available by visiting dnr.wi.gov and searching “Lake Michigan whitefish.”
