Fishing Report, End of May…2017
Muskie Season opened this past weekend and was a rousing success! Everyone that went Muskie fishing on the Inlands reported a successful weekend.
Spring fishing continues to be really good on Chequamegon Bay!!!
Small Mouth bass are still in pre-spawn and spawn mode, with a some beds being made. The East end of the Bay is the primary spawning ground. Target 5feet of water or less using flies or light jigs rigged with plastics.
Northerns are becoming more active in the shallows as the water warms. Soaking smelt or casting spoons has been very productive.
Walleye fishing has started to pick up during low light hours, drifting crawler harnesses over the weed beds.
Reports are still coming in that the Trout and Salmon fishing continues to be really good right now in the Bay all the way out to the Islands, trolling stick baits in the shallower water or look for the mud lines!
Some Anglers have transitioned into using spoons depending on how deep fish are running.
The Crappie bite on the Inlands has been more active as the waters are getting warmer. Crappies and Blue Gills are starting to make beds now.
