Fish Lake Superior? We want your input

If you fish on Lake Superior, this public hearing might be for you.

We want to hear from you on proposed Lake Superior commercial fishing regulations!  The Department of Natural Resources will hold a public hearing on Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. to gather public input on a proposed permanent rule, FH-02-18, which implements the 2018-2028 Lake Superior Fishing Agreement.  This permanent rule follows passage of emergency rule FH-01-18(E) in March 2019 and contains similar updates.

Hearing Information

Date:  Sept. 4, 2019
Time:  6 p.m.
Location:  Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center at 29270 County Highway G in Ashland, Wisconsin.

The Lake Superior Fishing Agreement is an agreement between the department and the Bad River and Red Cliff Bands of the Lake Superior Chippewa that impacts fish harvest allocation, management and regulations.  While this rule mainly affects commercial fishing regulations, it aims to maintain a balanced fishery for commercial fishers, tribal home use fishers and sport anglers.

Can’t attend the hearing?  You can still submit written comments on the rule through Sept. 9, 2019 at:

Meredith Penthorn
DNR Bureau of Fisheries Management FH/4
P.O. Box 7921
Madison, WI 53707
