Chequamegon BAY Area Fishing Report, July 28, 2016

Anglers All, Located at 2803 E. Lake Shore Drive (U.S. Highway 2) in Ashland, is a

full-service tackle and fly shop with a professional guide service for Lake Superior and area inland lakes and rivers, offering the largest selection of baits and tackle in the Chequamegon Bay area.  For the most complete and up-to-date fishing report, just give them a call at 715/682-5754, and they will gladly keep you informed!

Carolyn from Angler All reported: The water is starting to clear but there still are muddy waters, leaving water clarity on the Ashland side of the Bay still poor. Houghton Point to Pikes has clear water and the fishing has been good there. There was poor visibility when Anglers fished this week so they are asking people to fish with caution as there is floating debris due to the recent storms. Trolling for Trout has been good and anglers are reporting they have caught an occasional Salmon using spoons and spin-n-glows most commonly. Overall, the Big Lake is in good shape and fishing has been good.

The reports coming in say live bait has been the most productive inside the Bay. However, fish are being caught on artificial baits. Inland Lakes are high right now and anglers are catching Pan Fish, Bass and Northerns.

River Rock Inn & Bait Shop at 1200 W. Lake Shore Drive

(U.S. Highway 2), in Ashland where you can stop in and see their wide variety of live bait, fishing tackle, gear, accessories, fresh and smoked fish, local cheeses, meats, and microbrews, and much more. Call them at 715/682-3232 for the most current fishing report.

Scott from River Rock reports: Muddy Waters are patchy now. Look for patches of clear water and you will catch fish! Anglers trolling on the Lake have caught Lake Trout and Browns using spoons behind down riggers or dipsy divers. Scott said “The water temperature has been ideal for fish to be suspended at 50 feet with depths from 80 to 100 feet in the South Channel area”. Bass fishing has been really good. There have been good numbers being caught and they are a good size. Depths are 7 to 12 feet. Look for the deeper holes. Crawlers have been a good live bait to use. Fishing the Inland Lakes has been good with Large Mouth, Pan Fish and an occasional Northern being caught. Scott continues to ask folks to be aware of floating debris when fishing!

The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce, 1-800-284-9484, reports: Fishing is always a thrilling adventure in the Ashland area! Chequamegon Bay is famous for its world-class smallmouth bass fishing. The 12-mile-long bay’s rock piles and breakwater structures make for perfect bass habitat.
