Ashland Fishing Report

Anglers All ReportsLocated at 2803 E. Lake Shore Drive (U.S. Highway 2) in Ashland, is a full-service tackle and fly shop offering a huge selection of baits and tackle for year round fishing. For the most complete and up-to-date fishing report, just give them a call at 715/682-5754, and they will gladly keep you informed!
Carolyn reports: The entire Bay is covered with ice. Anglers are fishing out as far as Houghton Point but access is with extreme caution. Anglers need to have safety come first at all times. Bring an ice bar to check your way…Bring safety equipment, like ice picks. For a current ice fishing report please give us a call. Reports of catching some nice Browns and Splake have been coming in and there are reports of Perch, Whitefish, Northerns, and a few nice Walleyes being caught. We have had some really, really cold temps so the ice is continuing to build. In general we have approximately 6-8 inches of ice on the Ashland side of the Bay and approximately 6-8 inches on the Washburn side of the Bay. Just remember, this time of year, even though there's plenty of ice in other areas of the upper Midwest, Lake Superior is a different world.  ALWAYS carry your ice bar, and when in doubt, call us for updates.

River Rock Inn & Bait Shop, Located at 1200 W. Lake Shore Drive (U.S. Highway 2), in Ashland where you can stop in and see their wide variety of live bait, fishing tackle, gear, accessories, fresh and smoked fish from Lake Superior, local meat sticks, and microbrews, and much more. Call them at 715/682-3232 for the most current fishing report.
Scott Bretting from River Rock reports: With the cold temps there has been some good ice forming. Scott recommends using caution at all times!!!! Always bring your ice fishing safety equipment with you. Remember…just because you see people on the ice doesn’t mean it is safe, so proceed with caution. There are tents popping up, however we stress using caution….call ahead and check before venturing out.
There are reports on the Ashland side of the Bay of nice Walleye, Perch and White Fish being caught and Burbot/Poor Mans Lobster/Fresh Water Cod/Lawyers (all the same fish) being caught soaking dead Smelt on the bottom. Browns, Splake and Coho’s being caught off of Bono Creek (S-Curve) with ice conditions around 4 to 6inches in that area and increasing daily with the frigid cold temps. Inlands have had some reports on some nice size crappies being caught and a few Walleye showing up.
Snow cover does make it slushy so be aware!
USE CAUTION at all times!
Happy New Year!
