Ashland County Fishing report
The local bait shops report the excitement is rising, as Anglers prepare for the Wisconsin fishing opener on May 6, which is the official start of the fishing season. Opening day for Wisconsin fishing is traditionally the first Saturday in May. Everything opens up on the Inlands. You should catch some nice Walleye, Small Mouth Bass, Northern Pike and more!!! Crawlers, Minnows and Leeches could bait in some nice fish.
Hook and line fishing for many fish species on many Wisconsin waters begins on that day. However, to better manage Wisconsin fisheries, season dates are often specific to the species of fish as well as the body of water.
Capt Nate Baron from Up North Guide Service encourages you to check regulations when Walleye fishing on inland lakes in the ceded territories as the limits vary from lake to lake. Inland water temps have been ranging from 48 -52°
Recent heavy rains have the streams and rivers high and muddy depending on the area.
Smallmouth Bass in the Northern territory is catch and release from May 6 -June 16.
Good luck fishing and have a safe weekend!
There have been some anglers out trolling on the Bay in-between the high winds that we have had. They are having huge success catching some nice Browns, Coho’s, Lake Trout and Splake.
