With Spring Turkey season just around the corner, Henry USA sent us a video now posted on our homepage that I know you’ll get a kick out of. The point is though, young hunters and smaller hunters won’t get a kick out of it at all. The wait for a gobbler can be too long to question whether or not you’re packing the right turkey load when he does show up (Dick Ellis Photo) Henry wanted to test the viability of their beautiful ...

Ashland County Fishing Report

September 11, 2018

Carolyn from Anglers All reports: We have had a week of tough weather with some hard rain creating mud lines. You can expect to see the mud lines for the next few days. Fishing can be very productive along the mud lines. Walleye anglers are trolling over the shallow weed-beds using crawler harnesses or stick-baits. Small Mouth fishing continues to be very good. Small Mouth have scattered throughout the Bay and could relate to any type of structure in the Bay. Anglers have been successful using sucker minnows. There have been reports of Cohos showing up in the Sioux and Onion River so trolling in front of the Sioux and Onion River could be a  productive possibility. Trolling for Lake Trout has been excellent with reports from Long Island all the way to Outer Island and all points in-between and Cohos have been reported being caught around some of the inner islands as well. Most Trollers are using spoons or spin-n-glos run off of down riggers, dipsy divers or lead core!

Scott Bretting from River Rock reports.....Bass fishing is really good with anglers having good success using sucker minnows.  The Bass are deeper in that 14 - 18 ft. Anglers are using sucker minnows and deeper diving shad raps.  The Lake Trout bite is fantastic in the flats and among the Islands. With cooler nights now we are seeing fall fishing patterns.  There have been a lot of boats out trolling and doing really good in the Flats and the South Channel catching their limit. Shore fishing is good from the docks casting for Rock Bass and Northerns using a variety of bait including dare devils, rapalas, and still soaking smelt and using crawlers. However, the Walleye bite does seems to be a bit tough right now. With the recent rain we are starting to see fish go up the stream. We haven't seen too many Salmon yet but as soon as reports start coming in we will post it. There are a lot of Bear Hunters in the area now during the first week. There is a lot of moisture but there still has been reports of success bear hunting.
