Ashland County Fishing Report

Fishing Report August 6, 2019

Anglers All reports:  Fishing  really has been great! Right now the water temp has moved to the 70's.  There are still Lake Trout in the upper water column as well as on the bottom.  Small Mouth are now in 10 to 30 feet of water. However, certain times of day you can fish the shallows of the shoreline for Small Mouth. We are having a tremendous year for Walleye fishing in the Bay. Most anglers are working 10 to 20 feet of water over weed beds and drop offs with anglers having success using crawler harnesses and stick baits. There are always Northerns in the mix. Summer fishing has been successful.

Scott Bretting from River Rock Inn & Bait Shop reports: We have water temps in the mid to upper 70's. There are a lot of nice Walleyes being caught in the Chequamegon Bay. A good bait to use there are crawlers, leaches, shad rapps, crawler harnesses, and little cleos.  Bass are now in their summer pattern in 20 feet. We are starting to see some Rock Bass now. The weeds are starting to get thicker making it tougher to cast. Soaking minnows and crawlers are the bait to use. A good bait for the Creeks and Streams right now are night crawlers and spinners.  We have a great Chequamegon Bay Fishing Brochure/Map which shows some of our shoreline fishing spots. Shoreline fishing has been great in some of the local favorite spots to fish listed on the fishing brochure.  There have been some nice size Perch being caught at the Ashland Marina and the base of the Oredock.
