Waukesha Gun Club Hosts High School Trapshooting Competition June 8 and 9

The Burlington Demons swept all three high school team categories at the Waukesha Gun Club last week

Two days of sun and great shooting took place on June 8th and 9th at the Waukesha Gun Club as the twelve teams of the SE WI SCTP High School Trapshooting Conference wrapped-up its third season at the 2012 Conference shoot.

The teams compete under the structure of the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) with emphasis on gun safety, teamwork, sportsmanship and competitive athletics. The SCTP provides the opportunity for young athletes to participate in the exciting and challenging clay target sports in a supportive environment taught by trained adult coaches focusing on the safe handling and use of firearms.

The Burlington Demons swept all three team categories with an impressive performance particularly by the Varsity squad of Jordan Hintz 99, Myles Walker 99, Cody Schilz 98, Ethan Kerr 97 and Christian Jensen 95 who broke 488 of a possible 500 targets. The Demons were followed by Wilmot’s Dakotah Gyger 98, Ryan Lipstteuer 97, Joseph Asleson 91, John Mcrae 91 and John Lass 89 who totaled 466 and Waterford’s 462 shot by Brett Strasser 94, Phil Davis 94, Hunter Swan 92, Travis Shecterle 92, Brandon Travis 90.

The Demons Junior Varsity of Jacob Derosier 94, Daniel Santos 93, Clayton Deford 91, Nolan Schenning 87 and Alexa McCarthy 87 tallied 452 to best Westosha Centrals Tyler Perona 93, Dalton Karow 92, Bryan Griffey 91, Scott Blume 86 and Ben Carter 80 breaking 442 and Jefferson's Cole Mewis 90, Mike Kevin 89, Andrew Shikey 85, Kevin Krause 83, Austin Beilke 83 who carded a 430.

Burlington Intermediates Cody McCarthy 93, Hunter Conrad 92, Cullen Kruser 90, Weston Uhlenhake 89 and McKinley Herda 84 scored 448 besting Westosha Centrals Eddie Korando 93, Nick Jackley 86, Benjamen Haigh 82, Jaret Schroeder 82 and Mathew Perona's 81 equaled 424 and Wilmot's Anthony Sandberg 86, Croy Kirch 86, Aaron Kerkman 81, Benjamen Epping 79, Evan Orre 78 who broke 410 of 500.

Union Grove’s John Brunner posted a perfect score of 100 to earn the Grand Champion title and one of a kind leather shell bag.

Other individual award winners were; Varsity first Jordan Hintz of Burlington 99, Second Myles Walker also of Burlington 99 and third Dakota Gyger from Wilmot 98. Junior Varsity first Jacob DeRosier of Burlington 94, Tyler Perona of Central 93 and Daniel Santos of Burlington 93. Intermediate Winners were first Henry Kurtzwell from Marquette 96, Cody McCarthy of Burlington 93 and Eddie Korando of Central 93. Ladies Awards went to Mariah Kerr of Burlington 91, Mecedez Jones from Central 90 and Christy Schneckloth also from Central 88.

Burlington was also awarded the annual traveling team trophy for the conference season finishing with a 10-0 record and 96.8 percent total.

All told 364 young athletes from Muskego, Cudahy, Oconomowoc, Jefferson, Lake Geneva Badger, Waterford, Milwaukee Marquette, Burlington, Wilmot, Westosha Central, Union Grove and Racine Lutheran.participated in the event which was hosted by the Milwaukee Marquette Hilltoppers.

These twelve teams plus many more from throughout the state will compete in the Wisconsin Scholastic Clay Target Program State Tournement which will also be at the Waukesha Gun Club. As many as 700 young athletes are expected to attend.
