Scores Climb in High School Trapshooting
The second week of High School Trapshooting in Southeast Wisconsin is complete with 609 young athletes partaking in the Southeastern Wisconsin Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) Conference. The athletes are grouped into three classifications; Varsity, Junior Varsity and Intermediate based on their school grade and experience level. Every single athlete participates each week and shoots one round of 25 16-yard trap targets with the top-five scores each week comprising the team’s overall score.
Warmer temperatures this week helped the young shooters loosen-up and the scores climbed higher with defending champions Burlington missing a perfect score of 125 by just one target in their Thursday night match against Lake Geneva Badger. Jordan Hintz, Myles Walker, Christian Jensen and Alexa McCarthy all posted 25’s in route to the 124. Badger posted a respectable 112 with Christopher Long and Joe Freeman each breaking 23.
Jefferson shot a very impressive 119 on the road at Muskego with Kevin Krause, Cole Mewis, Lucas Heideman and Jonah Kramer all posting 24’s. Muskego managed a 103 with James Kaye and Eli Golden topping the Warriors with 22 targets each.
Wilmot and Milwaukee Marquette had a tight, high scoring match with the Panthers coming out ahead of the Hilltoppers 115 to 112. Ryan Lipstreuer and Jacob Head posed 24’s for the victors and Alex Borden dropped just a single target for Marquette.
Racine Lutheran got their first victory of the young season with an impressive 114 besting Cudahy’s 110. Clayton Stevens broke 24 to lead the Crusaders. Andrea Turlick led the Packers with a 23.
Waterford snuck past Oconomowoc 107 to 105 with Peter Jackley leading the Wolverines with a 23. Dalton Dunham and Spencer Hellekson’s who each broke 22 paced the Cooney.
Union Grove broke 103 targets and fell to the virtual (average of all other varsity teams) score of 112 in their match against Milwaukee Lutheran who only are fielding a JV squad in their first season.
Westosha Central had a virtual match and fell one score short of the virtual score 110 to 111. Scott Blume and Daniel Miller each dropped just a single bird for the Falcons.
Winners in Junior Varsity were Jefferson, Burlington, Waterford, Wilmot, Union Grove and Westosha Central. Croy Kirch of Lake Geneva Badger had the top JV score of the week with a 24. Intermediate Cullen Kruser had a perfect 25 this week for Burlington.
This week about 50 athletes from several of the SE WI SCTP Conference teams will travel south to the World Recreation and Sports Complex in Sparta, IL to compete in the first major youth shotgun tournament of the season at the SCTP Midwest Regionals. The teams will compete in trap, skeet, sporting clays and the new Scholastic Pistol Program.

The Mission of the SEWI SCTP Conference is to instill in young people a respect for good sportsmanship, competitiveness, cooperation, teamwork, and high moral character through trapshooting competition.
The SE Wisconsin SCTP Conference was formed to create in young people a set of personal values and character traits such as fair play, compassionate understanding, individual responsibility, self-discipline, and personal commitment - qualities necessary to become successful and contributing members of society.
Competition is an important part of the Conference, but it is not the program’s underlying principle. The “win-at-all-costs” philosophy has no place in the Conference. Striving to win while playing by the rules does. It is the DUTY of everyone involved - coaches, parents and participants - to be role models for team members to emulate, by upholding high moral and ethical standards of personal conduct.
Our Conference embraces and upholds all the rules, guidelines and standards of conduct; which are listed in the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation’s SCTP Handbook, Coaches Guidelines, and its Sportsmanship Contract.
The safe responsible handling and use of firearms is the foundation of our organization. We believe that trapshooting is a lifetime sport that families can enjoy together and our Conference can bring communities together through interscholastic competition.
