More than 800 Young Shooters from 6 States to Participate in Burlington Youth Clay Target Event

For Immediate Release -- Burlington Invitational Youth Shoot

Over 800 young athletes from six states are expected to travel to the Burlington Conservation Club this week for one of the largest youth clay target events ever held in Wisconsin. The annual Burlington Invitational will be held from April 25th to the 28th at the Burlington Conservation Club in Burlington, WI. The event will be held following the guidelines of the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and is open to school-aged athletes and SCTP teams.

The young athletes will compete in a 100-target 16-yard American Trap event in five-person squads with the highest total of broken targets being crowned champions. Last season the BHS Demons Shooting Team came away victorious with a score of 470 of a possible 500 targets; many of the teams are coming to the event with the goal of knocking the hometown team off the top-spot. There will also be a 25-target international-style wobble trap competition which will use the top three scores from each team added to the top five trap scores to determine a High Over All champion team.

The event is being supported by the Midway Foundation's Scholastic Shooting Trust and all SCTP teams in attendance will earn funds for their schools endowment fund. There will be several sporting industry representatives on hand to display their products and services. Crazy Quail will demonstrate their live bird simulator and it will be available for anyone to try their hand shooting at four spinning 360 degree targets.

The activities will begin at the Burlington Conservation Club at 6065 Brever Road off of Hwy 142 on Thursday, April 25th at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 26th at noon and Saturday and Sunday, April 27th & 28th beginning at 8:00 am. There will be door prizes, raffles, food and refreshments available throughout the event.

The SCTP is a team based youth development program, originally developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), where adult coaches and volunteers model sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, and teamwork while using shooting sports programs to teach these and other positive life skills. Goals of the SCTP are to teach the safe and responsible handling and use of firearms in a supportive team-based environment using the shooting sports as the catalyst for teaching life lessons and skills that emphasize positive character traits and citizenship values. The SCTP introduces young shooters to a sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime, one that offers a level playing field, and one that offers all family members an opportunity to enjoy together.
