GRANTSBURG, Wis. - Make the most out of summer by participating in programs at Crex Meadows State Wildlife Area with events in July and August for visitors of all ages:

Crex Camp for Kids - July 23-25 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

This wildlife day camp for kids ages 8 to 12 will bring new adventures each day as children explore the wetlands, woods, and prairies of Crex. We recommend bringing mosquito and tick repellant, close-toed shoes, a water bottle and a rain jacket. Pre-registration is required.

Crex Hunt and Fish Camp - July 29-31 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

This program covers the basics of hunting and fishing and teaching children how to interact with nature using ageless skills. Participants will have the opportunity to practice shooting archery targets and set up deer stands and blinds while participating in hunting scenario activities. They will also get to learn about fishing equipment and spend the last day fishing at Memory Lake Park. We recommend bringing bug spray, close-toed shoes and a water bottle. Pre-registration is required. The class size is limited to 20 students between ages 10 to 15.

Duck Banding Program - Aug. 9 from 6-8:30 p.m.

Help biologists and wildlife technicians capture, band, and release local ducks. Begin at the Visitor Center to receive information and instruction. Carpool to banding site. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited. Ages 8 and up.

Kids Kayak Adventure - Aug. 19 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to kayak? Here's your chance. Crex is offering a course for kids aged 11 and older to learn the basics of kayaking and have the chance to paddle around Upper North Fork Flowage. Pre-registration is required by Aug. 9. It costs $25 per person or bring your own equipment. Life jackets are required.

Explore Archery - Aug. 29-30 from 12-3 p.m.

Are you interested in hunting with a bow? Now is your chance. Crex Meadows will be offering a bowhunting workshop for kids aged 12 to 17 in two separate classes in August. Learn about equipment, shooting basics, ethics and more. At the end of the class, participants will be able to participate in a shooting course. Pre-registration is required.
