Attendee Registration Now Open
for 2016 SHOT Show

Registration for the National Shooting Sports Foundation's 2016 SHOT Show is now open for attendees. The show — Jan. 19-22 in Las Vegas — will be here before you know it. While registering, attendees can also easily enroll in SHOT Show University and other educational sessions. Registration for members of the press will open in September. Register now at shotshow.org.

  • DONATE TO PROJECT CHILDSAFE FOUNDATION . . . New this year, while registering for the SHOT Show, attendees can donate to the Project ChildSafe Foundation, which supports the Project ChildSafe program, our industry's firearms safety education initiative. Project ChildSafe Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit charitable organization. All donations to the organization are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Project ChildSafe

  • PROJECT CHILDSAFE FOUNDATION . . . Project ChildSafe, Inc., the industry's firearms safety education charity, is now operating as the Project ChildSafe Foundation. The name change symbolizes the growth the 501 (c)(3) organization has experienced and better reflects its mission to support Project ChildSafe's safety messaging and free gun lock program. Tax- deductible contributions to Project ChildSafe Foundation can be made by visitingprojectchildsafe.org/donate. Also, shop using Amazon Smile, which allows you to select Project ChildSafe as your charity of choice. At Project ChildSafe, every $2 helps put a gun lock in someone's hands.

Government Relations

  • NSSF, NRA, SAF SUE SEATTLE OVER GUN, AMMO TAX . . . NSSF joined the National Rifle Association, the Second Amendment Foundation, Seattle-based retailers and gun owners in filing alawsuit today in King County Superior Court challenging Seattle's recently approved sales tax of $25 on each firearm and five cents for each round of ammunition (two cents for .22 caliber). "The Seattle ordinance is nothing but a 'poll tax' on the Second Amendment and an effort to drive Seattle's firearms retailers out of business," said NSSF's Larry Keane.Read the NSSF press release.
  • CALIF. CITY COUNCIL DROPS FIREARMS RETAILER ORDINANCE . . . The Scotts Valley, California, City Council last week rejected a proposed ordinance that would have set new local standards for federally licensed firearms retailers seeking to open, expand or relocate their existing business. The ordinance would have mandated a city "dealer license" on top of the federal and state license FFLs must already obtain. NSSF adamantly opposed the ordinance, coordinated with Scotts Valley firearms retailers and sent a letter of opposition to the city council.
  • FEDERAL AND STATE ROUNDUP . . . U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy does not regret calling gun violence a public health issue prior to his confirmation. New Jersey has become the 39th state to enact Families Afield Legislation. Figures released by the Oregon Government Ethics Commission show that the Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety spent $764,232.35 on lobbying in that state, more than all other organizations in the reporting period, including state teachers. All the pro-Second Amendment organizations combined spent a grand total of $88,000. Read NSSF's latest Government Relations Update.

This change may affect retailer who are a current users of the NICS E-Check service. How will you know if you are impacted? Click here.
  • ATF Q&A . . . More great questions came in on our 24/7 NSSF member compliance hotline last week. One question asks if a licensee can return a consigned firearm to a different individual than the person who originally placed the firearm on consignment. Another questionasks what responsibilities an FFL has to respond to a request to trace a firearm.
