NSSF's Inaugural Shooting Sports Fantasy Camp a Hit

CAMPERS MAKE BIG STRIDES WITH COACHING FROM WORLD-CLASS INSTRUCTORS . . . Baseball, car racing and rock guitar have their fantasy camps, and now the shooting sports has its own successful version following the inaugural NSSF Shooting Sports Fantasy Camp last week in Las Vegas. Sold out just days after being announced, the Shooting Sports Fantasy Camp attracted 30 shooters from across the country and is drawing rave reviews from guests and media. Camper Georgiann Pharis said, "It is awesome. I had expectations, but it has far exceeded any expectation I ever had. Everything is so well organized and so well planned and thought out." The big draw and included in camp "tuition" was the opportunity to work with top shooting champions Jessie Duff, K.C. Eusebio, Julie Golob, Jerry and Kay Miculek and Dianna and Ryan Muller. "Our Fantasy Camp demonstrated that participants of all ability levels have a passion for their sports equal to that of fans in other major league sports," said Chris Dolnack, NSSF Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. "We couldn't be happier with the outcome of our first event." For more on NSSF Shooting Sports Fantasy Camp, including a list of generous sponsors, read the press release.

  • URGE GEORGIA GOV. DEAL TO SIGN HB 1060 . . . House Bill 1060, legislation that would improve Georgia's firearms laws, including language to protect firearms and related businesses from discrimination by financial service providers, is awaiting Gov. Deal's signature. This measure is a priority for NSSF. If enacted, Georgia would be the first state in the country to provide such protection for those involved in the firearms industry. Please contact Gov. Deal today and urge him to sign HB 1060 into law.
  • NSSF CONGRESSIONAL FLY-IN FAST APPROACHING . . . Executives from the nation's firearms and ammunition manufacturers, distributors and leading retailers will be in Washington, D.C., April 12-13, for the annual NSSF Congressional Fly-In. Meetings are already booked with members of both houses of Congress. Topics to be covered include the nearly $50 billion national economic impact of the firearms industry, export control reform and providing adequate funding for ATF functions that support our industry's ability to provide services to customers.
  • FEDERAL AND STATE ROUNDUP . . . With Gov. Terry Branstad's signing of NSSF-supported HF 2279, Iowa became the 42nd state to legalize suppressor ownership and use. A federal judge has overturned the handgun ban in the U.S. Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Islands, ruling the Heller and McDonald decisions applied to Commonwealth citizens. Minnesota hunters should contact their state legislators to express support for HF3209 and SF3387 to stem a Department of Natural Resources proposal to ban use of lead shot in wildlife management areas.

  • SHOULD YOU START A PODCAST OF YOUR VERY OWN? . . .From firearm reviews to how-tos, podcasts can be a way to demonstrate to your customers the depth and breadth of your firearms and training knowledge, which can go a long way toward building your brand as a go-to resource customers seek out. But before you jump in to buy a microphone setup and Google "how to start a podcast" (which will show you tons of options), there are a few pros and cons to consider. Read more.

News of Note

  • WHAT HUNTERS SHOULD REMEMBER ABOUT HSUS . . . NSSF members are well acquainted with the anti-hunting Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). NSSF literally exposed the HSUS playbook to ban hunting with traditional ammunition across the country as an important step in a campaign to effectively ban all hunting. The battle continues. • SHERIFF CREDITS FFL FOR HELPING AVERT POSSIBLE TRAGEDY . . . Federally licensed firearms retailers are on the front lines in preventing gun sales to those who should not have them, routinely refusing to sell to individuals acting suspiciously even if they pass the background check. Recently Ohio's Hocking County Sheriff Lanny North publicly credited Downs Bait and Guns owner John Downs with preventing a sale that could have ended in tragedy. Watch the Fox28 Columbus story.
  • GUNTV LAUNCHES . . . A new television shopping network for firearms and related consumer goods, GunTV, went live last Friday.
